i am what i am

Tuesday, February 21st, 2012

I am what I am
I am my own special creation.
So come take a look,
Give me the hook or the ovation.
It’s my world that I want to have a little pride in,
My world, and it’s not a place I have to hide in.
Life’s not worth a damn,
‘Til you can say, “Hey world, I am what I am.”

I am what I am,
I don’t want praise, I don’t want pity.
I bang my own drum,
Some think it’s noise, I think it’s pretty.
And so what, if I love each feather and each spangle,
Why not try to see things from a different angle?
Your life is a sham ’til you can shout out loud
“I am what I am!”

I am what I am
And what I am needs no excuses.
I deal my own deck
Sometimes the ace, sometimes the deuces.
There’s one life, and there’s no return and no deposit;
One life, so it’s time to open up your closet.
Life’s not worth a damn ’til you can say,
“Hey world, I am what I am!”

find my name

Streamers and balloons and little white flowers
Haunt the memories.
How I could make you laugh and I could make you smile
And inside be dying?

Girls running to and from the truth
and the days to come.
I learned my part well.
Then I grew up and I moved and
I met some people who asked me who I was.

And I couldn’t find my name.
I’d lost it somewhere between 10 and 23.
I need to find my name,
Though I know it’s here somewhere.

Pickles and pizza and manipulation
Oh, some things are hard to lose.
Habits are hard and habits are
A source of comfort when you’re lonely and confused.

But I’ve got to go, I’ve got to run.
I’m heading for the sun and
He will call me near

When I find my name
I’d lost it somewhere between and 10 and 23
I need to find my name
Though I know it’s here somewhere.

Aunt Jennie just turned 84,
She loves her life so much more
Than when she was 25.
She walks her dog and laughs a lot
And encouraged me to take a shot and see
And see,

And to find my name
I’d lost it somewhere between and 10 and 23
I need to find my name
Though I know it’s here somewhere.
I know it’s here somewhere

I’ve been burned out
I’ve been hated
I’ve been fucked up
And unsophisticated
A little foolish
A little jaded
I ain’t complaining
That karma’s been back-dated

And there’s nobody fading away here
Goddammit, well, it’s been this way for years

It’ll live forever
Just how it goes
Ain’t nothing better
Than mother-fucking rock & roll
It’ll never stop
We’ll never fold
Do yourself a favor
Turn off your radio

And there ain’t nobody fading away here
Goddammit well it’s been this way for years
It’s been this way for years
Goddammit well it’s been this way for years

Goddammit well it’s been this way for years
Goddammit well it’s been this way for years
Goddammit well it’s been this way for years

I’ve been burned out
I’ve been hated
I’ve been fucked up
And unsophisticated
A little foolish
I barely made it
Told me to pay a price
So I fucking paid it

But there’s nobody fading away here
Goddammit well it’s been this way for years
Goddammit well it’s been this way for years
Goddammit well it’s been this way for years
Yes

Goddammit well it’s been this way for years
Goddammit well it’s been this way for years
Goddammit well it’s been this way for years

Goddammit well it’s been this way for years
It’s been this way for years
Goddammit well it’s been this way for years
Goddammit well it’s been this way for years
Goddammit well it’s been this way for years
