a random act of senseless kindness

Friday, December 14th, 2012

I picked up the morning paper
The headlines were no surprise
A random act of senseless violence
Was committed again last night
It seems the whole world has gone crazy
And something needs to be done
So starting today, I’m gonna find a way
I’m gonna repay someone

With a random act of senseless kindness
Unexpected hand to help remind us
A little bit of love is the cure for hate
It’s easy to give up but it’s never too late
A single step in the right direction
Person-to-person, making a connection
We can change the world that’s become so violent
With a random act of senseless kindness

How I long to live the simple life
When neighbors were still friends
And the sidewalks leading downtown
Were safe to walk back then
The classrooms and the school yards
Were havens for our kids
Well, it’s a long way back
But we can get on track
Today’s a good day to begin

With a random act of senseless kindness
Unexpected hand to help remind us
A little bit of love is the cure for hate
It’s easy to give up but it’s never too late
A single step in the right direction
Person-to-person, making a connection
We can change the world that’s become so violent
With a random act of senseless kindness

miss invisible

Saturday, August 4th, 2012

There’s a girl
Who sits under the bleachers
Just another day, eating alone.
And though she smiles
There is something just hiding
And she can’t find a way to relate.
She just goes unnoticed
As the crowd passes by.
And she’ll pretend to be busy
When inside she just wants to cry

And she’ll say:
“Take a little look at the life of Miss-Always-Invisible
Look a little harder, I really, really want you to
Put yourself in her shoes.
Take another look at the face of Miss-Always-Invisible
Look a little closer, and maybe then you will see
Why she waits for the day
When you’ll ask her her name”

In the beginning, in the first weeks of class
She did everything to try and fit in
But the others they couldn’t seem to get past
All the things that mismatched on the surface
And she would close her eyes when they laughed
As she fell down the stairs.
And the more that they joked,
And the more that they screamed,
She retreated to where she is now.

And she’ll sing:
“Take a little look at the life of Miss-Always-Invisible
Look a little harder, I really, really want you to
Put yourself in her shoes, shoes, yeah
Oh, take another look at the face of Miss-Always-Invisible
Look a little closer, and maybe then you will see
Why she waits for the day
When you’ll ask her her name”

Then one day, just the same as the last
Just a days spent in counting the time
Came a boy that sat under the bleachers
Just a little bit further behind…

we’re all mad

Thursday, June 28th, 2012

Oh, I think the lady did protest too much
She wouldn’t take the flower from my hand
She only saw the shadow of my circumstance
Perception can describe what makes a man

I didn’t mean to interrupt your stride
But a rose was all I had to give
Sometimes beauty isn’t recognized
When it contrasts with what you feel inside

Who’s to say the darkened clouds must lead to rain?
Who’s to say the problems should just go away?
Who’s to point a finger at what’s not understood?

Because, we’re all mad in our own way
Colours paint the grey away
Different people all the same
Each reveals the meaning
We’re all mad in our own way
Fill the sky with different shades
Read the story on each page
Each reveals the meaning
Each reveals the meaning

Sometimes I think I over analyze
As if I cant control the time and place
Life isn’t something you try on for size
You can’t love without the give and take

Who’s to say the darkened clouds must lead to rain?
Who’s to say the problems should just go away?
Who’s to point a finger at what’s not understood?

Because, we’re all mad in our own way
Colours paint the grey away
Different people all the same
Each reveals the meaning
We’re all mad in our own way
Fill the sky with different shades
Read the story on each page
Each reveals the meaning

We’re all mad in our own way
Colours paint the grey away
Different people all the same
Each reveals the meaning
We’re all mad in our own way
Fill the sky with different shades
Read the story on each page
Each reveals the meaning

Oh, each reveals the meaning
Oh oh oh yeah, oh

We’re all mad in our own way
Colours paint the grey away
Different people all the same
Each reveals the meaning
We’re all mad in our own way
Fill the sky with different shades
Read the story on each page
Each reveals the meaning

We’re all mad in our own way
Colours paint the grey away
Different people all the same
Each reveals the meaning
We’re all mad in our own way
Fill the sky with different shades
Read the story on each page
Each reveals the meaning (the story)

We’re all mad in our own way (We’re all mad)
Colours paint the grey away
Different people all the same
Each reveals the meaning
